Waikiki hotels creates settings for selfies
The first order of business for guests staying at the Surfjack Hotel in Waikiki is to post on Instagram an aerial shot of the words at the bottom of the pool. In this Millennial age, the “Wish You Were Here,” hand-lettered by local artist Matthew Tapia, qualifies as a thinly veiled humble-brag. While Michelle Jaime, principal of the local design studio the Vanguard Theory, says her team didn’t set out to design for Millennials, she does admit, “It just sort of happened.” And since the Surfjack opened last year, two more Waikiki hotels have followed suit with similarly youth-driven, infinitely Instagrammable designs.
